Black Americans are at least 1.5-2x as likely to have Alzheimer’s disease versus white people (NIA, 2021) with other estimates as high as 3x as likely (Findley,2023) There are many aspects that impact people and cognitive decline. The endemic racism Black people face in the health care system, lack of access to care, studies based on the majority culture, cultural incompetence, and the internalized stress of generational racism all impact cognitive health. Additionally, “80% of surveyed Black patients report experiencing barriers to healthcare for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD), delaying the time-sensitive treatment of a progressive neurodegenerative disease. According to the National Institute on Aging, Black study participants are 35% less likely to be given a diagnosis of ADRD than white participants,

despite being twice as likely to suffer from ADRD than their white counterparts”
